Maricopa County, Arizona is home to approximately four million people–the fourth largest county in the United States. Its county seat/capital, Phoenix, is the fifth largest city in the country. Working diligently behind the scenes to prevent and prepare for large-scale emergencies in this dynamic region is the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management (MCDEM). The Department, which currently staffs 16 employees, performs a variety of essential public safety functions on a daily basis.

Maricopa County Turns to BOLDplanning for Support of its Preparedness and Emergency Operations Plans

Like so many other emergency management operations across the country, MCDEM found the task of writing and maintaining the County’s continuity and emergency operations plans time consuming and labor intensive. To ease the burden and speed the process, department officials turned to the BOLDplanning for help in 2015.

As the solution of choice for more than 10,000 public and private sector organizational plans, BOLDplanning  provides comprehensive planning services coupled with superior online software that matches required planning guidelines, including Continuity Guidance Circular 1 & 2 (CGC1/CGC2), Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 101 (CPG101), and the National Response Framework (NRF).

Since 2015, the BOLDplanning system has been customized to meet the specific planning needs of the Maricopa Region and has been deployed via the internet at www.MaricopaRegionPrepares.com for this region-wide planning initiative. Today, MCDEM continues to rely on the company’s expert staff and web-based planning platform to prepare, test and update numerous jurisdictional plans across the county, including those for Mesa, Scottsdale and Buckeye.

Exceptional Readiness

When asked about the County’s experience with BOLDplanning, Rudolfo Perez, Emergency Services Planner for MCDEM, had this to say: “Maricopa County and our jurisdictional partner’s commitment and capability to ensure effective continuity of operations to deliver essential services during potential periods of disruption is not possible without BOLDplanning. Through their planning expertise and training, our Maricopa Region has developed over two hundred departmental level COOPs and EOPs, resulting in exceptional readiness to a region of around four million residents.”

BOLDplanning, as always, is honored to serve the organizational planning needs of Maricopa County, and appreciates the opportunity to contribute to Maricopa County’s ongoing (and top-notch) public safety efforts.
