If you’re involved in hazard mitigation, resiliency, or risk reduction planning, and your work involves FEMA’s Region III, take a break. A coffee break, that is.

BOLDplanning has learned that on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, FEMA will host the first webinar in a series, dubbed “Coffee Breaks,” for anyone interested in reducing risk in their Region III communities. Region III, as you probably know, encompasses the State of Delaware, the State of Maryland, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Washington DC, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the State of West Virginia.

According to FEMA, the new “Coffee Breaks” are hour-long webinar sessions hosted every other month to provide mitigation best practices and highlight the work happening at federal, regional, state, and community levels to reduce risk across the region.

The first webinar (July 15, 2020, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM ET), will explore how the risk of dam failure can be effectively assessed and addressed through state and local Hazard Mitigation Plans, or HMPs, as well as FEMA’s High-Hazard Potential Dam (HHPD) grant program, and emergency action plans.
