As an emergency management professional, you most likely welcome the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with others. You probably also like listening (and working) with colleagues to build upon your proficiencies and ultimately, improve preparedness within the communities you serve. With FEMA’s new Emergency Management Exchange Program, you can do just that, and in the not-so-distant future (July through December 2022).
According to FEMA, the new staff exchange program will allow state, local, tribal, and territorial government officials to work with the agency’s leadership (namely the Office of Response and Recovery or Resilience, Washington D.C.) to develop and implement emergency management policies and programs. Just as important, if not more so, program participants will see first-hand the impact of their contributions from a different governmental perspective.

- There will be a total of four participants selected for a six-month assignment to FEMA (again July through December 2022).
- FEMA will reimburse the participant’s home organization for the cost of the participant’s salary, plus benefits, for the duration of the assignment.
- Nominations should be submitted by the nominee’s supervisor or someone in a higher-level leadership position.
- Nominations are due by May 27, 2022.
