Drought is a common problem across the entire country; though its causes and effects can vary dramatically from location to location. Some cases of drought develop very quickly and only last a short time, whereas others (which are oftentimes exacerbated by extreme heat and/or wind) can span for years, or even decades. Such periods of drought can have significant environmental, agricultural, health, economic, and social consequences. For these reasons, drought is often included in many state and county Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMPs).
In coordination with the National Drought Mitigation Center and the American Planning Association (APA), representatives from FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance Branch and the Bureau of Reclamation will discuss drought mitigation in a free webinar on September 18, 2019. The webinar is scheduled for 2:00 – 3:15 PM ET.
