In keeping with its mission to “constantly deliver top flight services through emergency and continuity plans that genuinely work today and tomorrow,” BOLDplanning is always working to improve its online planning platform and strengthen its team of certified planners and subject matter experts.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the company announced that Janey Camp, PhD, PE, GISP, CFM, HAZUS® Professional and Certified Floodplain Manager, had joined the group as a consultant. Now, BOLDplanning is happy to say that former Iowa State Patrol Colonel, Michael Van Berkum, has contracted with the company as well.

Van Berkum’s impressive career in law enforcement and homeland security spans over three decades. He began serving as an Iowa State Trooper in 1985, and went on to be named Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Homeland Security Coordinator. Van Berkum also graduated from FBINAA Academy (Quantico, Virginia), and served as Iowa’s FBINAA President in 2011 and 2012. He retired as a Colonel with the Iowa State Patrol in 2017.

Having fulfilled a variety of specialty assignments, and participated in numerous exercises and real-world incidents, including the United® Flight 232 airline crash in Sioux City, Iowa (1989), Van Berkum is well-versed in emergency preparedness, response and recovery. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for BOLDplanning, he will share his extensive, real-world knowledge and experiences to support the emergency, continuity and mitigation planning efforts of the company’s clients nationwide.

“We are so excited to see the company expanding yet again, and so very quickly,” said Cathleen Atchison, MEP, PCP, and BOLDplanning Vice President, Global Solutions. “Gaining team members (like Mike) who have a passion for assisting people, along with the necessary skills to develop solid and actionable plans not only helps BOLDplanning carry out its mission, but also lends to creating a culture of preparedness for our customers.”
