Gwinnett County, Georgia Prepares with COOP Project
November 2009 – Gwinnett County, Georgia has selected Bold Planning Solutions and their web-based planning system, EMplans.com for their county-wide Continuity of Operations Planning Project. The goal of this multi-year project is to provide onsite COOP training seminars and plan development services to Gwinnett County and each of its local government agencies to ensure Continuity of Government.
Using the EMplans.com system as a base, Bold Planning Solutions created a customized Gwinnett County planning system designed to match the county’s specific COOP planning needs and requirements. The customized version was deployed online at www.GwinnettCOOP.com and now allows all local government agencies within Gwinnett County to create their own individual COOP plans online in an easy-to-use, standardized planning environment.
The major benefits of using a web-based COOP planning system are:
COOP planning information can be accessed and updated online at any time to ensure up to the minute accuracy, as well as for use during times of COOP activation
Built in “Helper Tips” within the system literally walk planners through each phase of the planning process and provide a guided pathway to ensure total plan development
System provides a structured plan development model, thereby allowing plans to be created individually and unique in nature, while still adhering to the county’s pre-defined planning style in structure, terminology and overall layout
Project managers have access to a wide variety of tools within the system to enhance the overall plan development process; including grading tools for reviewing plans online, roll-up reports for analyzing data, and built-in notification capabilities
To date, the Gwinnett County project has proven to be very productive and highly efficient. Currently, there are over 35 individual plans being managed within the GwinnettCOOP.com system and includes the participation of Emergency Management, Human Resources, Community Services, District Attorney, Sheriff’s Office and the Gwinnett County Courts.
The Gwinnett County COOP project is scheduled to continue through 2010/2011 with Bold Planning Solutions providing onsite training seminars, COOP planning guidance, and tabletop exercise services. Gwinnett County is one of several county-wide COOP projects being managed by Bold Planning Solutions. Other county level COOP projects include Coconino County, Arizona, Multnomah County, Oregon, Merced County, California, Loudoun County, Virginia, and Horry County, South Carolina.
